Brief

I got myself the RX100 this past year, which includes since been the best compact camera to work with, and thus far I haven't discover a camera that betters it, which is obviously until this upgrade that brings some much welcomed extras.

Here are some of the upgraded features:

  •  A greater sensor (Exmor R CMOS Sensor) it's still exactly the same size and contains the same effective mega-pixels, but is backlit which suggests it's able to post light by a further 40%.
  •  Hot-shoe little idea why they didn't include this on the previous version, but no less than it's here now.
  •  Tilt-able screen something I used to be desiring around the old RX100, this is among my favourite upgrades definitely!
  •  NFC (Near-field communications) I like this extra feature, by tapping the base of this camera on your phone which includes NFC enabled, it'll connect them both together instantly. In the event you don't have PlayMemories Mobile installed, you will be towards the store to download it (totally free), in case you have it installed already, it is going to connect both of them together which you could then control you together with your phone, though the modes are limited, you're able to take stunning quality photos and instantly transfer on them on your phone when taken.
  •  24p recording an additional welcomed option for many who love having more choice when recording (24p, 60i & 60p).
  •  PAL & NTSC choice inside the settings you are able to switch from together which I'm sure others will love.
A very important factor this camera doesn't have is a bit-screen, that is debatable as a lot of people like this sort of feature, however others don't, personally I'm not a fan of touch-screen on cameras I've got a NEX 5RL and I use the buttons to navigate, I dispise using the touch-screen for whatever reason.

Grip is minimal (best in combination with the wrist strap), once again this is as a result of preference, I love the mixture in the sleek style whilst having just enough grip, but others might not like this.

Settings & Modes

Similar to the RX100, that is aimed towards people who find themselves more advanced in photography due to it's great number of changeability in settings, that said, similar to most cameras currently, regardless if it's an expert camera or for basic needs, each of them appear to have automatic modes which allow individuals to photos quickly and never have to worry about tweaking the settings in many situations.

The interface is in fact comparable to that of the RX100, by building a few extra available settings located inside the menu, in case you haven't seen it before all the settings are changed inside main menu, unlike the opposite cyber-shot cameras in which a side menu arises letting you change settings whilst observing what are the camera is pointing at, this place has a solid menu that covers the full screen, which is very appropriately tabbed which makes it easy to navigate.

Picture Quality

The standard is completely fantastic, your camera will be able to focus quickly to the at the mercy of then take good sharp photos.

This camera has the capacity to deliver an incredible level of depth of field (obviously is determined by which mode or settings you have), and found it be more superior to the previous RX100 when it comes to concentrating on subjects at a closer range.

The flash about this camera is additionally very good and that i discovered it to not be overwhelming, I prefer the actual fact they've kept the identical styled flash that permits you to manually point it upwards, helping you to bounce the flash from the ceiling.

Video Quality

For those who are into recording movies/video footage, then you will be Very happy with this particular camera, especially on it's top quality which produces a very smooth looking video.

The in-built stereo microphone is additionally very good quality, though by building the-shoe it enables you to give a heightened microphone (model number 'ECM-XYST1M'), if it opens up.

Helpful information

When transferring files, if you're using the USB lead provided, ensure when it's connected you turn your camera on, otherwise it will not recognise the digital camera is connected.

Personally I recommend getting a USB SDHC Card Reader, it's a great deal faster to navigate through files and delete the methods not needed, then you're able to copy and paste the desired photos on your computer within seconds.

Pictures come in the "DCIM" folder.

Overall opinion

Due to RX100 having this kind of positive response from customers across the world, It would be a clever move by Sony to boost your camera even more with the help of extras consumers was speaking about which could improve it even more, current RX100M2, they have done just that!

Using the extra additions of an upgraded sensor with better sensitivity, hot-shoe, tilt-able screen, WiFi & NFC features, this definitely helps to make the RX100M2 a worthy upgrade.

In spite of this, I don't think it entirely replaces the previous model for the reason that RX100 is still an excellent camera and is available for less money, if however the additional features are something that might be of an greater use (which for me personally it's got), then It would be worth either upgrading, or buying this on the RX100.

Overall I'd definitely recommend this camera, it's just utterly brilliant!
